During Brazil’s encounter against Serbia at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on November 25, Neymar da Silva Santos suffered an ankle injury—leaving Richarlison de Andrade to take the offensive.

Neymar, 30, was fouled nine times by the Serbians. He went down in the 80th minute after Nikola Milenkovic tackled him hard.

He was benched and had Antony Matheus dos Santos come in. Brazil’s trainers treated Neymar’s injured ankle with ice packs.

But with Neymar injured, it could have changed the game’s outcome and the odds at OKBet. Fortunately, his team emerged triumphant, finishing the match with a 2-0 lead against Serbia. He was limping toward the locker room after the game.

Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, has yet to assess the damage to Neymar’s ankle. They will have the result within 24 to 48 hours.

“Neymar has an injury on his right ankle, a direct trauma. Due to the impact from the knee of the Serbian player, we started immediate treatment on the bench,” he said during an interview with the media.

“He continues with the physio but now needs to wait 24 to 48 hours for a better assessment. There is no MRI scan scheduled, but tomorrow we will make a new assessment. We need to wait and cannot make any premature comments,” Lasmar added.

Just last season, Neymar suffered a similar injury, missing 12 games.

Neymar injured not a problem, says coach

Despite his injury, Neymar will continue to play throughout the series, according to Tite, the head coach of Brazil. He had faith that his player would stick with it and assist them in winning the sixth World Cup trophy.

“He stayed for the two goals we scored, even feeling his ankle injury because the team needed him. In the two chances and the chance he was in, which [was decisive], his ability to overcome pain. In both goals, he was already feeling it.

“You can be sure that Neymar will play [in] the World Cup. I am absolutely sure about that. He will play in the World Cup,” Tite said after the match.

For Brazil’s next match, they will face Switzerland on Monday before going toe-to-toe with Cameroon next Friday.
