The F1 World Championship will begin on March 5, 2023, with predictions expecting Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team to win. Check out the odds at OKBET, and we’ll explain why in this blog post.
Max, in all fairness, was destined to be a Formula 1 driver, just like his father, former F1 driver Jos Verstappen. His mother is Sophie Kumpen, a professional go-kart driver who battled future F1 drivers Jenson Button, Jan Magnussen, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Jarno Trulli.
In an interview with the BBC news outlet, Jos admitted that he saw potential in his son.
“On the second or third day after he got it, he went on two wheels, had to adjust the steering, and went side-on into the wall. Luckily, he was wearing a helmet, which got scratched. But he didn’t mind.
“He was driving all the time. He had a feeling with an engine. [It] Didn’t matter whether it was a quad bike, an electric jeep – you know, the small things for children – or whatever. He was always busy with driving. Every day he needed to be on it,” recalled Jos.
According to his father, Max was already in love with driving cars at the tender age of 4. There was even a time when he wanted to race against adults, which Jos narrated during the BBC interview.
“He was four and a half, and there were younger people driving, and he wanted to drive as well. So that’s when it all started.”
At age 25, Max Verstappen already broke Formula 1 records, with the latest during the Mexico City Grand Prix. But before that, he had been a pro since he was 17 — the youngest to become an F1 driver.
Not only that, but he was also the youngest winner, at 19, winning the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona in 2016. He is looking to add another victory to his already 35 wins and 20 pole positions once the 2023 F1 World Championship starts.
Max, since his professional driving career, has been known to be temperamental and arrogant. He was also criticized for his attitude, especially when he called Lance Stroll a “retard” and a “Mongol” during the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix.
In 2019, he faced backlash over his track manners, hitting Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas as he chased a third consecutive win at the Mexican GP. Verstappen also ignored yellow flags, costing him the pole position.
His most recent issue was in the recently-concluded São Paulo Grand Prix. He was supposed to give way to teammate Sergio Perez but ignored his team’s order.
Verstappen even blamed Perez that he could finish second place if not for his teammate receiving a red flag. He finished sixth in the São Paulo GP, and Perez seventh.
Although he did not finish second in the final leg of Round 21 of the 2022 F1 world championship, Max was already leading by a considerable margin with 14 wins and 429 points.
Red Bull said they resolved the issue and admitted they were at fault. They also took their driver’s side against “Death threats, hate mail, vitriol towards extended family.”
He will be facing insanely good drivers and teams. According to the OKBET odds, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Alpine are the three teams to look out for aside from Red Bull.
On the other hand, F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell are on the watchlist to snatch the championship from Verstappen. Carlos Sainz Jr and Perez are also predicted to have a chance of winning the World Drivers’ trophy.
However, Red Bull and Verstappen have incredibly lower odds, 1.90 and 1.75, respectively. It means that they are the heavy favourites to win next year.
But what do you think so far? Will Max add another title to his already-stacked resumé? Or will he lose this one?
